April Benavides
April Benavides, Director of Marketing, joined New Video in August 2008. After several years in book publishing, including a stint as Assistant Editor at HarperCollins Publishers, Benavides moved into film and television, working on the marketing and publicity for theatrical releases such as 28 Days Later and Bend It Like Beckham at Fox Searchlight Pictures and TV series such as “Stargate: Atlantis” at SciFi Channel. In 2004 she moved into home entertainment marketing at BBC Video, shepherding DVD releases of such classics as As Time Goes By and edgy fare like Nighty Night. Her next post at HBO Video granted her opportunities to work on DVD releases of “Sex and the City”, “Entourage”, “The Wire” and “The Sopranos,” including the mammoth 33-DVD “The Sopranos: The Complete Series” mega-set. In her time at New Video Group, Benavides has overseen the deep catalog of over 250 titles in the Docurama Films line while managing new releases such as Stacy Peralta’s Crips and Bloods: Made in America. In 2009 she supervised the line’s 10th anniversary celebration and screening series, as well as the release of notable titles in the New Video NYC line (“Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”) and Arthouse Films (Herb & Dorothy).
