SILVERDOCS is looking for energetic, organized people with excellent communication skills who are willing to commit at least 10-20 hours a week. Internships are unpaid, but school credit is available.

Internship opportunities are currently available in the following departments:

Marketing & Operations Internship

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsibilities include general departmental support and assisting with a wide range of marketing initiatives, including advertising campaign tracking with print, TV, radio, online partners and street teams. Intern works directly with SILVERDOCS Associate Director. This is an administrative job, but with lots of room to grow and learn.

SKILLS NEEDED:

An eager self-starter who doesn't mind lots of office work and computer time. Must enjoy juggling multiple projects with rapidly shifting priorities. Good phone and computer skills are essential, with a fluency in Mac OSX, Word, and Excel. Research, organizational and communication skills are a big plus.

Video and Technical Internship

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Assist the Technical Director with logging and editing video shot during the 2006 SILVERDOCS film festival and various AFI Silver film programs. Also, provide general administrative assistance to the Technical Director and Video Systems Manager, including filing, labeling and archiving tapes. This internship is a great opportunity to work closely with SILVERDOCS and AFI Silver technical staff in the state-of-the-art video production studio at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center -- the most technologically advanced theatrical venue in the United States!

SKILLS NEEDED:

An eager self-starter with excellent time-management skills and knowledge of video production. Mac and Final Cut Pro knowledge a must. Knowledge of Pro Tools, Soundtrack and other audio and video editing software a plus. Should be highly detail-oriented and eager to learn.

Programming Internship

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Programming department creates the slate of Festival films, and is the front line for all filmmakers interested in participating in SILVERDOCS. Programming interns will get an insider's view of the selection process for a large competitive film festival.

Interns will help to research upcoming documentary projects, prepare materials for outreach to other festivals, and assist with the organization of films submitted to the Festival, including files, tape library and submission database. Interns will also help answer filmmakers' questions about the festival, assist with year-round programming events, and review submitted films for potential inclusion in Festival.

SKILLS NEEDED:

A self-directed worker with an interest in film who wants to learn more about the film industry. Interest in/knowledge of documentaries is preferred. Written and spoken communication skills, with fluency in Mac OSX, Word, Excel essential; FileMaker Pro a plus. Must be able to lift boxes up to 30 pounds. Clerical (phones, faxes, mail, copies, filing, internet research) & data entry experience. Regular access to DVD & VHS players. This is largely an administrative position, but can expand depending on your interests, availability and strengths.

VOLUNTEER SCREENERS

Screeners review at least 40 feature and short documentaries submitted to SILVERDOCS. Potential Screeners should have a critical eye and knowledge of film, and be able to write articulate and concise evaluations of the films they review. Screeners must have a VCR and a DVD player, reliable Internet access, and a qualified point-of-view. Regular access to multi-region DVD and VHS players is a plus. Screeners are required to pick up films for review at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, MD during regular business hours.

The Screening Review Process takes place between November '06 and March '07. There is no school credit available for this position, but there are many other benefits, including a pass to the Festival.
