- Section: 1968 and Beyond
Charles Guggenheim’s 1964 and 1968 campaign films and TV commercials for Robert F. Kennedy remain influential for their political effectiveness and their authentic storytelling. ROBERT KENNEDY REMEMBERED was made following the presidential candidate’s tragic assassination in June 1968, and was screened at the Democratic Convention in August of that year. It captures the best of Guggenheim’s prior campaign films and illuminates the essence of a man who gave voice to the aspirations of a generation and who continues to inspire with his message of hope and commitment to social justice. The panel discussion will feature AFI’s Founding Director George Stevens, Jr., celebrated journalist Frank Mankiewicz, filmmaker Grace Guggenheim and others.
