A MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY

Dear Friends:

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 8th annual SILVERDOCS: AFI/Discovery Channel Documentary Festival, a celebration of international film culture in beautiful Montgomery County that attracts audiences from across the Washington metropolitan region and beyond.

We are proud to be the East Coast home of the American Film Institute, which hosts the week-long SILVERDOCS festival. In just eight years, SILVERDOCS has become one of the premier documentary festivals in the nation, as well as an international destination for filmmakers, industry leaders and film enthusiasts.

SILVERDOCS maintains a strong connection to our community by including local educators in the festival and forming partnerships with local businesses. In Maryland, we are committed to education through visual literacy. Since film and television are the dominant media of our time, incorporating them into our school curriculum is an important part of our state’s commitment to continue our leadership in education. 

As you enjoy the SILVERDOCS films, special events and conference programs, I encourage you to take a moment to consider the creative energy, industry savvy, progressive thinking and hard work required to produce this outstanding event.
